Of all the ports on the Alaska vacation corridor, Juneau is without a doubt the most often visited (and is constantly cited as people's favorite port as well). The city is located in an absolutely scenic section of Alaska, on a narrow salt water channel, surrounded on all sides by enormous, verdant mountains and vast glaciers.

It is entirely likely that, if you and your fellow travellers are interested in taking part in an Alaskan cruise, your schedule will incorporate a stop in Juneau.

1.Mt. Roberts Aerial Tram

One of the best low-cost shore excursions on a vacation Alaska style is the ever-popular Tramway to Mt. Roberts.The tramway car picks you up from the waterfront right by the cruise docks, and it takes you up to a peak some two thousand feet above Juneau. The vista from the top of the tram is awesome, and there are activities for cruisers of all ages.

2. Four Glacier Helicopter Adventure

This is unforgettable heli-tour shows you the apparently endless and utterly spectacular Juneau Ice Fields. The trip visits four special glaciers: the ever-retreating Norris Glacier, the Hole-in-the-Wall Glacier, known for it's amazing ice towers, the Taku Glacier, and the floating glacier.These glaciers are in reality rivers of ice and are changing daily, always presenting new spectacles to behold. 3. River Rafting Excursion on the Medenhall

4. Heli-Tour and Trek to the Glaciers

On this journey, you'll go on a 30 minute long heli-tour on which you'll get some of the best and most amazing overhead views of glaciers - Then you will experience two hours on top of a glacier with an ice axe, crampons, and full ice climbing equipment - all provided by the tour operator. You will exploring the glacier close up, from a perspective very few ever get to experience. It's incredibly exciting, and you'll be instructed in all the skills you need during an orientation, so first timers are welcome.

5. Heli-Tour Dog Sledding Trip

What says "Alaska" more than a trip on a dog sled?Now throw in an exciting heli-tour of the glaciers, and you'll be treated to a simply incredible shore trip.

Talk about a fun vacation... A growing trend in travel is "medical tourism", according to the Contra Costa Times.

Due to the ever escalating costs of medical care in the U.S., Americans are frequently traveling to Canada and other countries further afield to seek medical treatment. The trend started with plastic surgery procedures, but has now grown to include everything from sinus surgery to heart bypass operations.

I don't know about you, but I could go for a trip to Thailand for some lipo and a little beach time. Or maybe I should make that beach time THEN lipo. I can sense an opportunity for package deals here!

All kidding aside, this is a pretty troublesome trend. But then, I guess it might be nicer to recuperate in Phuket than Philadelphia.
